Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleansing System

Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleansing System

Ever wanted to buy the Clarisonic Mia but didn’t want to spend £150 on it? Well, never fear  – I have the perfect solution! Instead of blowing all that money on the Mia – buy the Olay Pro X for a fraction of the cost! It costs  from $29.99 and although its not exactly the same….its hard to justify the extra spend on the Mia!

I would give the Pro X 10/10

Here is the Mia

And the Olay Pro X

Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleansing System

I bought both the Mia and the Pro X and after testing them both out, the Mia went back to the shop and I kept the Pro X, which I now love!

What are these machines?

Both the Mia and Pro X are hand held personal facial cleansing devices or also known as an electric face brush. They are electric and the bristles oscillate around, exfoliating your face and giving it deep cleanse as you wash. Once you have used one of these babies, you will not want to stop!! For me now, I have been using the Pro X since April and I am so used to using that I my face doesn’t feel “clean” to me unless I have used it!

Benefits of the machines:

  • Improvement in skins overall appearance – skin is super soft
  • Reduction in acne, blackheads in particular
  • Can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Feeling of really clean and refreshed skin
  • Enhanced results from other products you use afterwards

What do you get with the Clarisonic Mia?

This costs about £150 (or about $120 in the USA) or so and you can buy it in different retailers in the UK and online, I got mine from Space NK because they offered a refund if I was not happy with it.

It comes with a charger and a sensitive brush head, and 30 ml (trial size) Gentle Hydro Cleanser.

What do you get with the Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleansing System?

This costs $29.99 (if bought in the US, where some drugstores sell it, the UK you are looking at about £35-45 or so) and you get the device with batteries, a trial size cleanser and one spare brush head. There is no charger because its battery operated. The device has two speeds (at which the head oscillates), one is faster than the other one. I usually use it on the faster setting. The first set of batteries lasted about 2 months, and I use the device twice a day, everyday!

How do the Mia and Pro X compare?

The Mia differs from the Pro X in that the Mia has a charger that you have to plug into the wall but the Pro X is battery operated (double A batteries). The Mia also comes in a range of colours, where as the Pro X only comes in white as far as I know, would be cool if they made it more colours, but somehow I will cope!!

When you use them both, they are really good at cleansing your face, without it being too rough or harsh, I think those with sensitive skin can use both of these and not worry. Whether using the Pro X or the Mia cleansers, you get a lovely foam, and I have used these with my own face washes and soaps and they make everything really foamy and nice. You have to use each one for about a minute to get the full effect. Its kind of addictive, I now love washing my face because I love the feeling of this!

Once you have washed your face with either of these, you face is instantly more soft and than it would have otherwise been, and importantly they seem to prep the skin well for any products you use, post wash. For example I noticed that my serum and night cream sank into my skin super fast after using these, and I needed less product – so its brilliant in the long term (esp. if the products you use are expensive!). It also really gets the circulation going and that is good for the overall maintenence of the skin and helps you to look for radiant!

Both are water resistant and can be used in the shower, which is awesome!

Thoughts after using both for 2 weeks

Within about 2 weeks of using the Mia and Pro X I noticed an improvement in my skin. I got less blemishes and breakouts, partly due to the fact my face was being thoroughly cleansed each evening (I use it in the morning too!), I had a LOT less blackheads too, now after months of use I don’t have any blackheads at all anymore. I got compliments on my skin after that initial 2 week period, which make me think – great! Its not just me who is noticing the good results!

After 2 weeks, I decided to sit down and think about whether I wanted to keep the Mia or not. During the 2 week period of using both machines, I sometimes tested it by washing half my face with one machine and half with the other – and I honestly think they both give great results….so in the end – you guessed it! I ended up returning the Mia and keeping the Pro X.

Once the cleanser that came with it finished I didnt buy it again, not because I dont think its good, I do, its just that I am happy with my normal cleanser and you dont need to use the Pro X one with the device.

Reasons to buy the Pro X

Great value considering the cost of the Mia and little difference between the two of them. I have read reports of the Mia breaking within weeks of use, meaning time and hassle getting a replacement, but I have not heard as many stories about the Pro X breaking. I have also accidentallydropped my Pro X a number of times and (thankfully) it hasnt broken on me (I really hope I havent just tempted fate by writing that just now – I would IMMEDIATELY have to set about getting a new one!!)

Good quality item – feels nice in your hand and it is easy to use

No charger needed, so you don’t have to worry about taking that with you on holiday or if you have the right adaptor for it on holiday etc. Everyone can access double A batteries (for the Pro X)!!?

The replacement heads are affordable and cheaper than replacement heads on the Clarisonic

I wish this could be bought in shops in the UK, but I don’t think its available in stores here in the UK. I got mine from a kind soul in the US who mailed it over to it me, but I have seen it on Amazon (for more than it would cost in the USA, which is a shame, but it’s a lot less than the Mia!) and Ebay (the price is more reasonable on Ebay) also, with delivery options to the UK.

I wish it came with a holder or cradle or some way of hanging it in the bathroom

I cant imagine not using this on a regular basis now, and I hope I am never without my Pro X. If this breaks I will immediately buy another one, and I do mean immediately!! Its one of the best beauty purchases I have ever made and I really encourage everyone to give the Pro X a try, if you wash your face (as opposed to using wipes or cleansers and cotton pads), even if you do currently use pads or wipes please consider buying one of these!!! You will not regret it! Honestly….I cannot RAVE enough about how much I love this!…..

If you have one, or a Mia or something similar, please let me know what you think – and if you get one, let me know what you think!

  • this sounds like a pretty cool product, does it feel weird on the skin? are you sure it’s safe to use? I know that sounds funny, but someone told me that you shouldn’t actually put too much stress on the skin…is it quite gentle?

    October 20, 2011

  • I cant see it being a problem as long as you dont use too much force when you use the machine, the machine itself is really gentle – and dont forget that Olay has made this in association with dermatologists etc!
I LOVE the feeling on my skin…it feels lovely and its kind of addictive! I dont want to turn it off after one minute! haha
