I did a post a few weeks back comparing just the ELF and the Benefit, and since then I have also tried the new Sleek Brow Kit – so I thought I would update my article to include that too….
The ELF kit is a fantastic little product that is a bargain – it only costs £3.50 or $3.00 and it is virtually the same as the Benefit “Brow Zings” kit which costs £22.50 or $30.0o. Sleek also have one called “Brow Kit” and its £7.99
Bold eyebrows are a key look this season so get yours in good shape now – cheaply too!
I have tried them all and I think the ELF offers great value for money as it performs brilliantly, and should be tried before splashing out on the Sleek or even Benefit version if you are not happy with ELF.
The ELF kit comes in 4 different shades. These are: Ash, Light, Medium and Dark. I bought the Medium one – which is just right for my dark eyebrows and olive skin tone.
Sleek only comes in two shades at the moment – Light and Dark. I have it in Dark.
In comparison the Benefit one comes in 3 shades: Light, Medium and Dark. I previously used the kit in Medium but I don’t have it any more…I swapped it away since trying the ELF.
What these all have in common is that both have a dark wax that you apply first, over your brows with the angled brushes supplied in each (these are tiny and really hard to hold, my advice is invest in another angled brush) and then the other side is a powder that you apply on top of the wax to seal it. I think shaping your brows this way, over using a pencil or shadow is that this is more natural looking. Pencils can look too harsh and artificial and shadows are good but they are not as long lasting as these kits.
I was worried that the powder would be too light but it is not a problem since the colour doesn’t really show up on the wax.
The Benefit and Sleek kits both come with 2 separate brushes and mini tweezers but the ELF set comes with a double ended brush and you don’t get any tweezers. To be honest the Benefit tweezers supplied are not very good anyway! I havent tried the Sleek ones, but I dont hold up much hope of them being good….
When I compare the ELF and the BeneFit, I can’t tell the difference at all really and both last all day long – despite me sub-consciously rubbing my eye brows during the day. Both come in small black compact and their own applicators (not saying they are the best, but still, better than nothing!), and they have a mirror, albeit a small one on the ELF.
The Sleek one has the softest wax, but the colour of the wax comes up very dark on me (despite looking like its lighter than the ELF) is very dark on me and thats why I dont prefer it overall, however its really good and compares well to the Benefit one also. The Sleek one has a good size mirror, which is better than the ELF mirror. Another concern I have with the Sleek is that the wax never seems to set for me, and so its prone to smugding through out the day. I dont have this problem with the ELF or the Benefit one.
I have added a pic comparing the Sleek one with the ELF one:
It seems silly to me to buy the Benefit one over the ELF when the difference in price is crazy – my advice is that you should try the ELF one for sure. Another good reason to try the ELF one is that ELF do regular deals and offers on their site, I bought this at 40% off, so if £3.50 was not cheap enough for you, then its still possible to get it for even cheaper!!
The Sleek one is a good buy as you getting a whopping 4g of product (more than what you get with ELF or Benefit), however the shade was not right for me as i mentioned above.
One thing I like about the ELF over Benefit (other than the price!) is that the ELF contains less ingredients, and therefore less chemicals than the Benefit one. They both have mineral oil in them, which I don’t really like but I haven’t come across an eyebrow kit that doesn’t contain mineral oil, since I think it is needed for the wax. The Benefit one also contains parabens which I am not keen on either, but the ELF doesn’t appear to have any!
For me, the ELF is a winner hands down, it does its job quickly – lasts all day without smudging and is a fansastic price! Another winning product from ELF! Thank you for helping us look great but save money!!
