Review:
If you are a regular on my blog, you will know by now that I have combination oily skin and I am acne prone. Not really, what you call great skin?!
Due to the fact my skin is oily in parts, I need a foundation to really perform for me, most fade part way through the day or fade in patches -which is even worse! I also need primer, especially on long days when I am out all day and then have plans in the evening too.
Some primers are too full of silicones in my opinion, whilst they are good to use for a few days but continious use for me means I break out after a week or so and its just not worth the hassle for me.
I liked this Laura Mercier primer since is is not as high in silicones as many others I have tried which is a huge bonus.
This is quite rich and you only need a little of this to spread on your skin before applying your foundation.
I do find that this helps me to create a smooth base for my foundation and it certainly works to help me stay more matte during the day, especially good in this hot weather we have had recently.
Not only does it help to create a good base for me but it also has helped keep my foundation looking fresh and not fading – this is the main reason I wear a primer. I would say its helped exetended the wear of my foundation by about 3 hours or so, and I would like to think it will help even more in the Autumn and Winter since the heat is not exactly helping my foundation from melting!!
In case you are wondering – my version is a deluxe sample size of 30ml but the standard primer is 50ml.
I know this is not a cheap primer, but it does perform and you only need a small amount – and another good thing about it – it has not broken me out and I have been wearing it for weeks! So, if you are acne prone you will probably not experience any problems with this primer.
Do check it out at your local Laura Mercier counter – maybe ask them for a sample of it and see how you get on with it without splurging a whole £28 on this baby.
Here are the ingredients (there are a lot of them as you can see):
Water (Aqua), Tidecyl Neopentanoate, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Lanolin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Triethanolamine, Methylparaben, Carbomer, Propylparaben, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Allantoin, Retinyl Palmitate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Tocopherol, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Citrus Auraantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Honey Extract (Mel), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Red 40 (CI 16035).
For me though, this is better than any high end primer I have tried, including the coveted Smashbox primers, MAC, Stila and Guerlain – for me its THAT good!
4/5 from me, the only gripes are its quite pricey – but then I do love a bargain!!
What primer are you loving at the moment? Which one is best for your skin type? Let me know – I would love to hear your thoughts
Thanks for reading!

Nice review Gracie! I like the Illamasqua primer at the moment, the satin one but I might give this baby a try once that one has run out – since you seem to love it and I trust you!

I like to use a primer as I find my makeup just doesn’t last all day. I have a really oily T Zone. I like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and my skin gets on well with that. I want to try more products from the range & have added this to my wish list
Great review.

I do agree that a lot of primers are full of silicone, which isn’t good for oily skin especially. I read that this primer gives a dewy surface? Yet I’ve not really read a bad thing yet about this primer and have read it’s great for combination skin. I’ve not used a primer in a long time, I tend to just use a matifiying moisturiser which so far has been working ok for me
) but this is on my wishlist if in need xo
