NARS Foreplay Blush Palette

all that slap allthatslap blog

Hello!

When I saw this gorgeous baby online my jaw hit the floor – I was like “pump the breaks” – what is this loveliness?!

This is a Limited Edition Sephora Exclusive blush palette from NARS and its also being sold in the UK in Space NK. Other NARS counters do not sell this, so save your legs from running around after it!

Aptly named Foreplay, palette contains a Orgasm blush – a gorgeous peachy shade with shimmer, a cool blue toned pink like Mata Hari, a warm coral/red blush and a golden highlighter powder.

Review:

As some of you may know by now, I am a complete and utter blush addict. There is something about blush which gets my heart racing and I am in the camp of “you can never have too many blushes” – which is convenient for when it comes to buying more!

When I saw this palette I thought it was gorgeous and I had to have it! I immediately asked for it from a friend in the US – I didnt realise that it was also availabe in Space NK – DOH moment there…!

When it arrived I was super excited!

The shades of the blushes are gorgeous – you have cult classic Orgasm, which is the main shade in the palette. This is probably one of the most well known blushes in the world! You also get a gorgeous matte blue pink similar to Mata Hari, although its not a dupe. The red/coral shade is very eye catching and I dont anytihng like that in my collection. Finally there is a golden highlighter – the least favourite item  for me palette.

Orgasm is the only shade of blush which contains shimmer, and you have to be careful with this – it can end up being too shimmery. It does suit a variety of skintones however and its a very pretty blush. Thumbs up!

Just to note, if Orgasm doesnt work for you, check out Deep Throat, its much less shimmery and slightly darker, I love it even more than Orgasm!  Also if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Orgasm, check out Sleek’s Rose Gold – it is not an exact dupe but its very similar and great quality for a great price!

The matte cool toned blue pink is lovely too! I have Mata Hari and this is very similar but more blue. It will suit cool tones down to a tea and great for creating an English Rose type of look. I love it!

Next up is the red/coral shade  – for me this is unusual and pretty but I think a light hand is needed or you will look like you have been sunburnt!  I dont have anything like this in my collection. Its very pretty and will suit both cool and warm skintones.

Finally the highlighter is a golden toned shimmery highlighter which is my least favourite of the bunch. I am not keen on golden highlighters, I prefer peach and apricot toned highlighters. The highlighter in this palette contains chunky shimmer and is not ideal if you want some subtle shimmer. I wont be using it!

As with all NARS blushes, these wear very well and apply like a dream. They are fairly pigmented and you will need a light hand. I can get all day wear out of these blushes, especially the matte ones – they are very long wearing, even on my oily skin! A winner in that sense!

Here are the ingredients – which don’t blow me away to be honest:

I don’t like NARS packaging – although it looks nice, the compacts attract dirt and grime like no other and I think they need to re-think the casing.

However, there are the negatives for me with this palette. For a start, its the weight of palette. Its 10g in total. For comparison one NARS blush is 4.8g and costs £21.00. Considering the price of this palette, I would have liked it to weigh more so that you get more for your money!?

Secondly, I think although the palette is nice, I think you need to think about it before buying – will you wear all of the shades? I am not sure I will wear the Coral shade a lot, and if you have Orgasm already then this might not be a good buy for you.

Also – due the size of the matte pink, coral and highlighter shade, it might be tricky working your brush into the product, especially with the small highlighter – I don’t think NARS thought of the practicalities when designing this!

Overall, I think this is a nice palette but slightly overpriced for what you get and in hindsight maybe I shouldn’t have purchased it? Its nice, but for me its no phenomenal or terribly unique and I have no use for the ugly gold highlighter.

If you are in the UK you can buy it from Space NK  or if you have access to Sephora you can buy it from there.

Thats why I am giving it a 3.5/5

Let me know what you guys think of this – does it float your boat? Are you dying to get your mitts on it?! Or is this one to skip for you? Leave me a comment and let me know.

  • I’d quite like to see this palette in person before buying it but it does look gorgeous! I don’t own orgasm so might be worth it for me! I’ve not used a gold highlighter before so I’d be interested to see how that works on my skin! Great review :)

  • It’s a gorgeous palette but i’m not sure i’ll be buying it. I am not too fond of Orgasm and your review of the gold highliter has be frightened-my skin is oily and chunky glittery on it just makes it look worse !! Thx for the review Grace !

  • I bought this from Space NK but I wish I didnt. I find the matte shades really hard to blend and they end up looking patchy on me, I wish I had not wasted so much money on it. I like the Orgasm shade and the highlighter but I dont know the other 2. Now its sitting in my drawer not getting as much love as it should do. What brush do you use with these matte shades? Maybe I need to try another brush!?
    Please let me know, thanks

  • Hi Rachael

I know what you mean about the matte shades being a bit patchy and at times hard to blend. I personally use the NARS – its the Yachiyo brush that I love! Its pricey but it works really well. Here is a link:

Maybe try them with a different brush and let me know what you think?! xx
