TFWOC Project – Part 3 – Make Believe Self Tan Lotion with Bronzer

The tube - Double click to enlarge

As you may know, I am taking part on a series of reviews, with a bunch of other lovely bloggers – the project is all about tanning for women of colour – hence the TFWOCabbreviation!

The project was the idea of LaaLaa Monroe from Dolce Vanity and Annie from EpiphannieA and altogther there are 10 bloggers involved, all Aisan or Afro-Caribbean! Annie and LaaLaa have worked extremely hard on this and I cannot thank them enough and I am SO excited to be part of this project, as often tanning is focussed and targeted towards lighter women. You can read up more about this project here, but basically for 5 weeks we shall be testing out and reviewing different brands of tanning products to see which ones are the best and share our experiences!

Here is a list of the other bloggers (as well as Annie and LaaLaa mentioned above) that are taking part in this project:

Lola – Lola Star Hearts

Safiyah – FrootiBeauty

Tass – Une Tasse

Hafsa – Muslimah Beauty

Sophia – Tattoed Tea Lady

Yinka – Vex In The City

Stephanie – Nerd About Town

Dija – Dijas World

Last week the product I reviewed was the GOSH Instant Tan Gel which you can read up about here.

This week we are reviewing the Make Believe Self Tan Lotion with Bronzer. I have to be honest, before this project started I had never heard of this brand before! I guess that is the beauty of doing a project like this though!

This costs £24.50 for 200ml and its available on the Company’s website and also some Boots stores and Next Beauty. This is 4 (out of 5) in their Colour Zone Guide and is said to give a golden tanned look.

This is what the Company have to say about it:

For a natural looking tan with instant colour.

You will achieve an immediate glowing tan with makebelieve Self Tan Lotion with Bronzer. It is very easy to apply and can be washed off to reveal a longer-lasting tan after 4 hours.

This light moisturising lotion is includes a Lipo-Care Complex of ingredients that keeps the skin toned and supple and can help reduce the appearance of cellulite. The unique blend of Rainforest Oils intensely moisturises and conditions the skin and help make this product easy to apply. Anti-Oxidants and fruit extracts also help protect the skin against the signs of ageing.

Not only will you look naturally tanned with makebelieve you will feel indulgently fragranced and your inner beauty will shine through.

Review:

I love that this comes with plastic gloves to make the mess less when you apply it. It is very pigmented and you really do not need much of this for a lovely colour. Also the smell is really really nice! Its one of the most pleasant smelling tanning products I have ever come across. Its lovely :-)

The tan applies quite well, however, as pretty much always its better to use a tanning mitt (not supplied) which I used when I did my other arm. Although the product is tinted when applied you don’t see the full effect until 2-4 hours later.

It dries pretty quickly which is great and it feels nice as you apply it on.

I like the packaging, its functional and looks nice!

Within in 2 hours or so I could see the colour had developed into a nice colour on me, with a tiny touch of red which was not ideal but not too “orange” or fake looking my any means. I like the colour overall. I was careful not to apply too much, but its easy to apply more for a deeper looking tan.

And here it is after:

This tan is meant to last for about a week and I can say that is true, it only just started fading 5-6 days after I applied it. I am happy with the lasting power of this.

Here are the ingredients:

This contains a mixture of lovely natural oils such as Coconut, Jojoba, Sesame, Brazil nut just to name a few. It also contains shea butter, green tea extract and orange extract. I like that it contains these skin loving ingredients, but it also contains parabens (guess you can’t have it all!)

Overall, I do this – initially I thought it was quite expensive, but given that you don’t need very much at all, its good value for money. The smell is gorgeous and it give a nice colour which lasts well. Used with a mitt it can give a great even application.

Here is the link to the Make Believe site once again.

So, what do you think of this latest TFWOC trial? Have you ever tried Make Believe tanning products? Do you think you will give one a go now?! Get in touch and let me know.

Thanks for reading!

  • Looks interesting…I like to try it out even though it is a bit pricey but as you said, it is worth it because it last almost a week. What I like about it is it is easy and simple to use. I find it handy too. This is a good alternative than sun tanning.
