Clarins – Lotus Face Treatment Oil

Double click to enlarge

I have combination skin – I have an oily T zone and normal cheeks.  I am also very acne prone meaning my skin is a bit of a pain to manage. Hearing good things about this oil I got a sample from a Clarins counter and then bought the full size, here are my thoughts on it.

First, by way of background it should be noted this oil is one of three different facial oils that Clarins have been making for years. The three oils are Lotus (for oily/combination skin), Santal (for dry/extra dry skin) and Blue Orchid (for dehydrated skin). They were the first products that Clarins released in Paris in 1954 and they remain some of the their best selling signature products.

This is what Clarins have to say about it:

Naturally astringent for Oily or Combination Skin. 100% pure plant extracts with no preservatives. Clarins’ exclusive blend of Rosewood, Geranium and Lotus extracts purifies, tightens pores and refines the skin texture. Hazelnut Oil softens, soothes and seals in moisture to prevent fine lines.

The oil costs £30 for 30mlLink

Review:

I was initially apprehensive about using a facial oil on my oily skin, I thought it would make the problem worse and I feared breaking out. Well, I was wrong – this oil works to rebalance the skin and trick your skin into not producing more oil, I discovered that with Argan oil as a night time moisturiser but it didnt wow me long term. That is when I turned to Clarins after hearing good things about it. It is advised to use this every night for the first 3 weeks and then use one drop mixed into your night moisturiser after that.

The oil is fairly light in texture, I started by applying a few drops of this on my cleansed, damp skin at night. Any oil applied to damp skin will sink in much quicker than applied to dry skin. I found this oil sinks right in and makes my skin feel lovely.

The scent took getting used to, I was initially not a fan of it, but it grew on me! Its not my favourite but its certainly not something I dislike.

Within the first few days of using this I noticed a change in my skin. In the morning I woke up to no breakouts, but moisturised, nourished, rested skin. My pores appear reduced and I have much less blackheads now – its fantastic! My skin has continued to improve and it is definitely not as oily as it previously was – the balancing element is working well. I feel its a more effective moisturiser than Argan oil and makes my skin feel lovely.

I now use this mixed with a night time moisturiser to maintain the results. I do occasionally apply this neat, without my moisturiser for an extra boost.

Its important to note this must be kept in the dark to prevent it going rancid but the shelf life is none the less short as it contains no preservatives. I am not sure I will use it all up before it expires. I wish Clarins would make it in a smaller size, say 15ml so that this wouldn’t be a worry.

If you are a regular on this blog then you will now I like natural ingredients, I think its not only best for our skin but best for overall long term health too. This oil is free from any nasty ingredients and has done wonders for my skin. I don’t think I will ever be without it now, it has HG status now! If you are interested why not ask Clarins for a sample (2.5ml) the next time you are at their counter?

Overall, if you are look for a great night time nourishing treatment for oil skin, without any harsh or unsavoury ingredients then look no further. Its no wonder that these oils have been produced by Clarins for so long and continue to sell so well!

Although the RRP is £30 its now on offer on Escentual for only £24.40!

  • I was initially unsure about using an oil on my face as my chin particularly can get oily but I was amazed that using oil on a oily area can balance it out. Only thing I don’t like is that these products tend to be quite pricey x

  • It sounds amazing. I think I have the same skin type as you. How long would you estimate it lasts (if used according to the instructions)? I am so tempted to buy it but don’t know if I can justify spending that much on it (even at the discounted price on Escentual!) if it doesn’t last long/has a short use by date x

  • Hi Wendy, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. There is nothing on the bottle/packaging as to how long it will last, which is strange. I do think that even with nightly use it wont last more than 6 months without going a little off. That is, even by taking care of it and storing it in a drawer etc. I do think this a fab oil though, there are much more expensive oils out there that dont deliver as well as this one! x

  • Hi Grace, thank you for replying. 6 months is still pretty good for how good you say the results are. I’ll definitely try and get a sample of it as I am intrigued! Thanks for your help x
