Highlighters and Illuminators are some of my favourite makeup products. I simply cant get enough of them and I think they can be worn all day and night, all year round. The latest beauty which has caught my eye and won my heart is from Laura Mercier’s A/W Dark Spell Collection, on counters in July (kind of early for an A/W collection if you ask me, but anyway..)
Here is a photo of the whole collection:
This Illuminator is £31 for 6g and comes in a classic, Laura Mercier solid compact, with a mirror in the lid. As always with Laura Mercier the packaging is good quality and understated.
This is what Laura Mercier has to say about it:
A beautiful face illuminating hybrid product with a soft rose gold shimmer perfect for highlighting. The unique formula based on high pearl levels provides buildable long-wearing colour.
The Illuminator is indeed beautiful, the shape of the product looks to me like waves of silk fabric on a bed, its sumptuous and very feminine. This makes it stand out from other, traditional pressed powder products if you ask me, but it will take some time to wear this pattern down.
The colour of this is well described by Laura Mercier, it is quite simply a beautiful shade of rose gold, but rather than being too shimmery or frosty, it has a pearlised finish which is both flattering and high end. I love that this is not too gold, its just right.
This is quite well pigmented and if you are darker lady it can easily be built up, however you may run of the risk of it looking a little frosty if you over do it. The look this gives is not in any way unnatural or over powering, its really pretty on the tops of the cheekbones and even a dab on the cupids bow?!
Those with neutral and pink undertones will probably be best suited to this, but even with my yellow undertones I think it suits me.
I apply this with my MAC 188 stippling brush and it applies and blends well. The wear is one of the most outstanding features of this – many highlighters just simply do not last that long on me, but this baby is great. I can get a good 10 hours wear from this, despite my oily skin and the warm weather. For me the only other highlighter that has worn so well is the BeneFit Watts Up at around 8-9 hours.
This is limited edition, so if you like the look of it, don’t hang about. I am not saying this is a must have, but if you want a beautiful, long wearing and high quality highlighter then look no further.
At £31 this is not cheap but the gorgeous look and performance of this, make it worthwhile to me.
Would you consider this as a possible treat to yourself? Let me know what you think?
