bare Minerals: Lash Domination Mascara & Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Top Coat

I am fairly new to bare Minerals. I recently attended an event where I had the chance to learn more about the brand and saw a demonstration of the products.

They have recently released two new products – see what I think of both of them below.

Lash Domination 10 in 1 Volumizing Mascara – £16 for 11ml – Link

This claims to do the following 10 things:

  • Volumizes
  • Lengthens
  • Thickens
  • Separates
  • Lifts
  • All-day wear
  • Mineral fortified
  • Smudge-resistant
  • Resists clumps
  • Fights Flakes

The mascara is quite ambitious with its 10 claims. I have to say it does deliver some of the 10 things above but for me, it falls short of some of them. The pluses of this mascara is that the wand is quite a good shape, not too big or small and it gives good length and pretty decent volume. In terms of separation it does quite well too, probably given its quite unusual shaped brush – you would have to go nuts and apply loads of it to have clumpy eye syndrome. It also does not flake which is pretty important.  Finally it is a nice dark black which I really like as my eyes suit a nice dark mascara.

For me, where this fails is that its a bit hard to apply without getting it on your eye socket. It has quite a wet formula and because my lashes are quite long I found that I had to be really careful or I got smudges everywhere. Less than ideal when you are trying to get ready in the morning.

This is two coats of the mascara applied:

I also found that during the day the mascara had a tendency to smudge, esp around my lower lashes and that is something I do not appreciate when it comes to mascara.

All in all, this mascara was just okay for me – I do not love it enough to warrant paying £16 for it when I have had better results and wear from a mascara that is half the price from Maybelline. This is not a bad mascara, but its certainly not my favourite – sorry bare Minerals!

Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat – £12 for 7.5ml – Link

This is a nifty little number and I have not seen anything else like it before. This is great if your favourite mascara is not waterproof and you need it to go the extra mile.

I think a lot of people do not like waterproof mascaras, they tend to be prone to clumping, can be difficult to remove and are just not as nicely formulated as non waterproof mascaras, but bare Minerals have the answer!

Its a clear gel that you apply this over your normal, favourite mascara and as the name suggests it just adds a great top coat to your lashes. I applied this over a few of my favourite mascaras and I have tested it in the shower – this really works!! I was expecting to come out of the shower looking like a raccoon but it did a fab job and I am impressed.

This doesn’t really change the look or feel of your lashes – its pretty much undetectable and I love that. You can maintain the look and feel of your lashes with your go -to mascara. It is not as hard as normal waterproof mascara to remove which I think is another big plus.

I love the concept of this – its a great idea and I think its great for holidays when you are in and out of the pool or the sea or on nights out in a hot and humid nightclub. Also, lets not forget we live in a rainy country where we all bound to be caught out without our umbrella and the heavens open up!

Its not something I would wear everyday but for a holiday I would be more than happy to buy this for it to give my mascara the extra mileage! Bug thumbs up!

The ingredients for both of these are on the bare Minerals website.

Have you tried either of these from bare Minerals? Are you tempted to try one of them? Drop me a line and let me know!

  • The idea behind this mascara is really good and quite clever but it doesn’t lengthen or voluminous which is a bummer really.
